Viral commercials people still talk about — which one nailed it best?

Most ads are forgotten by the next commercial break. These four escaped their own airtime completely — quoted, parodied, and remembered years or even decades later. Which one nailed it best?

The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

In 2010, Old Spice needed to reach a new audience, so they cast former NFL player Isaiah Mustafa as a smooth-talking, shirtless pitchman who rattled off increasingly absurd claims — all in astonishing single takes with no visible cuts. "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like" became an instant sensation, and the brand followed it up by having Mustafa film hundreds of personalized video responses to fans and celebrities in real time, essentially inventing a new genre of interactive advertising. Body wash sales reportedly doubled within months. Over a decade later, "on a boat" and "look at your man, now back to me" are still instantly recognizable.

The Most Interesting Man in the World

Starting in 2006, Dos Equis introduced a silver-bearded, impossibly accomplished character who narrated his own legend in the third person: he's been known to sleep until noon, and once had an awkward moment just to see how it feels. Every ad ended the same way — "I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis. Stay thirsty, my friends." The catchphrase escaped advertising entirely and became a genuine part of everyday conversation, spawning endless memes and parodies. The campaign ran for a decade and turned an obscure import beer into a household name.

Guess what day it is?

A camel wanders through a busy office asking coworkers, one by one, "Guess what day it is?" Their groans only make him more delighted to answer his own question: "Hump day!" GEICO's 2013 ad turned a mildly annoying office pun into a genuine cultural institution — the phrase "hump day" was already common, but the camel became its unofficial mascot overnight. The ad was parodied, GIF'd, and referenced constantly for years afterward, and GEICO brought the camel back for anniversary campaigns because audiences simply never got tired of him. Few 30-second insurance ads have ever earned that kind of staying power.

Where's the beef?

In 1984, an elderly woman named Clara Peller stared down at a comically tiny hamburger patty on a huge bun and bellowed, "Where's the beef?" The line was so catchy it escaped the commercial entirely — Walter Mondale used it against Gary Hart in a live presidential primary debate that same year, and it's been part of the cultural vocabulary ever since. Wendy's turned a simple complaint about undersized competitors' burgers into one of the most quoted advertising lines in American history, still referenced decades later anytime something promises more than it delivers.
