Socko explains how the world works

In his 2021 pandemic special "Inside," filmed entirely alone in one room, Bo Burnham introduces Socko — a cheerful sock puppet who cheerily explains, in increasingly disturbing detail, exactly how power and exploitation actually work. What starts as a goofy children's-show bit curdles into something genuinely unsettling, as Socko's chipper tone never breaks even as the content gets darker and darker. Filmed and released during lockdown, the special became a defining piece of pandemic-era culture, endlessly screenshotted, clipped, and quoted online.
