What's the single most important milestone in the history of math?

Math didn't advance smoothly - it lurched forward through a handful of ideas so radical they were mocked, suppressed, or (allegedly) fatal to whoever found them first. Legend says the Pythagoreans drowned the guy who proved irrational numbers exist. Which single breakthrough below do you think reshaped everything that came after it?

The invention of zero as a real number (India, ~5th century). Not just a placeholder digit, but a number you could actually compute with - it's the hinge that our entire positional number system and modern arithmetic swing on.

Calculus (Newton and Leibniz, 1660s-80s). The math of change itself - it underlies nearly all of physics, engineering, and economics. The two inventors independently discovered it, then spent decades in a bitter priority feud that estranged them for life.

Godel's Incompleteness Theorems (1931). Proved that in any math system powerful enough to describe arithmetic, there will always be true statements that system can never prove true using its own rules - killing the 2,000-year dream of a fully provable mathematics.

Cantor's proof that infinities have different sizes (1874). He showed there are strictly more real numbers than whole numbers, even though both sets are infinite. The idea was so radical that fellow mathematicians savaged him for it, yet it's now the bedrock of modern set theory.

The discovery of irrational numbers (Pythagoreans, ~5th century BC). The same school that worshipped whole numbers as sacred found proof that root 2 can never be written as a fraction. Legend says the discoverer, Hippasus, was drowned at sea for revealing it.

Al-Khwarizmi founds algebra (9th century). His book "Al-Jabr" is literally where the word "algebra" comes from, and it introduced the first systematic methods for solving equations - the same core techniques still taught in every algebra class today.
