Text adventures never died — where are you actually playing one in 2026?
Text-based games didn't go away, they just scattered. AI Dungeon still pulls in players who want a story that writes itself as they go. Itch.io's Twine and parser scene keeps cranking out tightly-written indie interactive fiction that never breaks $5. Discord servers run persistent RPG bots like EPIC RPG in the background. And now text adventures are showing up as straight-up chatbots — no app, no browser tab, just a conversation, like the Chatventure bot on Telegram. Where's your text adventure actually living right now?
🗳️ 19 votes so far🏆 Leading: A Discord RPG bot like EPIC RPG. The adventure runs quietly in a server you're already hanging out in — grinding happens in between other conversations instead of needing its own dedicated session. (26%)🥈 A parser or Twine game from itch.io. Hand-written and finite, it actually remembers its own plot from start to finish — but you have to go dig for it, since itch.io's interactive fiction scene is easy to miss if you're not already looking for it. (21%)🥉 Chatventure on Telegram (t.me/chatventure_game_bot). Message it like a friend and the whole adventure plays out as a normal chat — no app to install, no account to create, your move history is just... your chat history. (21%)⚖️ Split decision🌍 🇨🇳 China, 🇺🇾 Uruguay
